Obituary of Walter John Higinbotham

Walter John Higinbotham, 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Madison, NJ, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Neptune, NJ, lived in Asbury Park, NJ, and has lived in Madison, NJ, for the past 61 years.

John graduated from Asbury Park High School. In 1973 He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He worked for JCP&L, Morristown, NJ, where he met the love of his life, Marie Fasano, in 1960 and they were married in 1962. He worked there as an accountant for 36 years until his retirement in 1995. He proudly served his country in the US Army.

As a gifted athlete himself, John was involved in Madison Football and was an avid golfer. He also volunteered at the Madison Community Garden. He was a member of St. Vincent Martyr Church, Madison, NJ. After his retirement, John helped people with their taxes. He loved all the relationships he had formed with his clients.

 

John is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Marie M. Higinbotham, and his loving children, Michele Jerry and her husband, Christopher, Jonathan Higinbotham and his wife, Cheryl, and Jeffrey Higinbotham and his wife, Barbi, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Nathaniel Jerry, Sean Jerry, Christopher Mondello, Grace Higinbotham, Owen Higinbotham, and Avery Higinbotham and his first great-granchild to be born in February 2024. He is also survived by his sister, Marily Tomaino, Katherine Harrington and her husband, Jon. He will be missed as well by many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Gerald, and his sisters, Alice, and Janice.

 

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, from 4-6 pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main St., Madison, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 18, at 10am at St. Vincent Martyr Church. It will be livestreamed from the church’s website (https://svmnj.org).  Interment will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison, NJ.

The family kindly requests that donations may be made in John’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
