Lynne F Bernstein

Lynne passed away Friday evening, June 14,2019, with her daughter at her bedside. Left to mourn are her loving and well loved daughter Amy Bernstein Merl, son Gary Bernstein, her adored and adoring grandchildren, Sophie and Jake Merl, her sister Margery, nieces Rachel and Debra, and nephews Joseph, Daniel and Adam. Lynne was predeceased by her husband Dr. Michael Bernstein and her nephew Jonathan. She will be dearly missed by her family and her many long time friends.

Lynne was born in NYC, in the Bronx. She graduated with high honors from Taft High School, went on to Syracuse University (where she was Prom Queen), and graduated from Barnard College, and was very involved in her sorority at both schools. She received a Masters Degree from Teachers College of Columbia University. After graduation, she began work in NYC for General Cable Corporation where she was the only woman in the Personnel Department.

At a Yom Kippur breakfast, she met Michael Bernstein, MD. Later that evening, she told her sister she had met the man she was going to marry. They were married on July 11, 1954 and moved to Springfield, MA where Mike served in the US Air Force. Lynne taught in an elementary school. They returned to NYC for Mike to complete his Medical Residency and where their daughter Amy was born. They moved and remained in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey where their son Gary was born.

Lynne was an active member of her community , PTA President, Community Council, NCJW, UJA, Overlook Hospital Twig, tutored students for the Home and School Council  amongst others. She was an avid volunteer and patron of the Arts, donating generously.  One of the greatest gifts she gave was that of friendship to so many. Lynne was steadfast and true. She was a treasure.

A private family service was held. Arrangements were under the care of Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, Madison.
