Wanda Julia Landi, 95, passed away of a heart attack on May 3 in her home in Morris Plains, New Jersey. Before moving to Morris Plains, Wanda lived in Forked River, Vineland, Fair Lawn, Paterson and Wallington.
A celebration of Wanda’s life will be held at a future date.
Wanda was born in Wallington New Jersey to Mary and Peter Barcewski on June 10, 1924, and was a loving sister to Peter, Stella, Victor, John, and Edward. Wanda was the first in her family to earn a high school diploma and she was always a strong believer in education. As a teenager, Wanda was a bobbysoxer - an enthusiastic fan of the big bands, especially a local singer named Frank Sinatra. She loved listening to his songs throughout her life, as well as Bobby Vinton. In World War Two, she X-rayed propellers for an airplane factory to check for defects. After the war she became a seamstress, a career she revived briefly in the 80's working at Rennoc in Vineland New Jersey sewing Christmas decorations. Around 1950, Wanda met her husband Al (aka Buick) of 58 years. They were married at Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Wallington in 1951 with a large wedding party that included her young nieces Mary and Martha Jaskot, attending as junior bridesmaids. Together Wanda and Al raised their five children. Her family was the focus of her life, and she brought her love, intelligence and humor to everything she did. She was even tempered, and always calmly did what was needed in a crisis. She loved children, playing cards, reading, listening to music and anything to do with family. Throughout her life, Wanda was close to her extended family of many nieces and nephews and in-laws, she loved them all. As a Roman Catholic, religion was important to her, and she attended Mass faithfully.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Alexander Landi. She is survived by her five children: Margaret Landi (Tom Goodwin), Barbara Hause (Richard), Michelle Martin (Alan), William Landi (Carol) and Anthony Landi (Judy), and eight grandchildren: Brian Hause, Alyssa Hause, Lia Goodwin, Evin Goodwin, Julia Landi, Grace Landi, Mary Landi and Anthony Landi.
She will be interred with her husband at the BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
