Obituary of Michael Meryn

Michael Meryn, 89, passed peacefully on Sunday, April 29, 2018. Born in Newark, NJ, the son of Mary and Nicholas Mierzynski, he lived in Newark and Springfield, NJ, prior to moving to Short Hills in 1972.

Michael graduated Seton Hall University in 1951. Always proud of his Polish heritage, he created and managed the Polish Cultural Programming on Seton Hall University's student-run radio station, WSOU. In 1958, Michael took ownership of Portaseal Weatherstripping Inc. of Morristown, NJ and built the company into a successful business enterprise until his retirement in 1997. Bigger than life with a heart to match he generously donated his time to other causes. He served as a Boy Scout Leader to Troop 17 at St Rose of Lima Church, Short Hills, NJ and was an elected Board Member and President of the Monterey Beach Club. Additionally, he served as President of the St. Stanislaus Parish Men's Club in Newark, NJ. If you knew Mike as well as his friends and family did, you could imagine him whistling "My Way" by Frank Sinatra as he entered heaven's gates.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years Ruth (Bogert), his pride and joy, daughter Maryanna and her husband David Hughes and the light of his life his granddaughter Tiffany Hughes. He is predeceased by his one and only son Matthew.

Friends and relatives may gather for remembrance on Friday, May 4, 2018, at the Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The Funeral Mass will follow at St. Rose of Lima Church, 316 Ridgedale Ave, East Hanover, NJ, at 12:00 noon. Entombment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery & Mausoleum, East Hanover.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Katie's House Inc. to support Dan and Michael's Place, PO Box 96, Newton, NJ 07860.
