Obituary of Kathryn "Tinka" H. Dawson

Kathryn “Tinka” Dawson, 79, of Morris Plains passed away on December 9, 2018. She resided in Morristown before moving to Morris Plains 23 years ago.

Tinka graduated from Morristown High School in 1957. She went on to graduate from Cornell University in 1961, and earned an M.A. degree in Special Education from Seton Hall University.

Tinka worked as a Learning Disabilities Teacher/Consultant in her private practice. She was previously employed by the Morris-Union Jointure Commission; and was Principal of the Early Childhood Learning Center in Convent Station. She was an accomplished, dedicated, and beloved educator. She retired in 1995.

After her retirement, Tinka enjoyed sewing and selling doll clothing through her home business  “Tinka’s Treasures.”  Over the years, she also enjoyed taking care of her many animals.

Tinka was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Morris Plains, where she also served as a warden on the vestry for several years.

Tinka is survived by her devoted children, Deborah Dawson (Dan Goldman), of Bedminster, NJ, D. Christopher Dawson (Lucy), of Topsham, ME, Kathryn J. Dawson (Ian Schoenherr), of Woodside, NY, and Jennifer Dawson Shryock (Joseph), of Cary, NC.  She is also survived by her beloved brother, Stephan C. Hansbury (Sharon), of Chester, NJ; her cherished grandchildren, Matthew Goldman, Rachel Goldman, Egan Dawson, Zachariah Dawson, David Shryock, Andrew Shryock, Kayleigh Shryock, and Kelsyann Shryock; as well as six nieces and nephews; and her former husband, David M. Dawson, of Woodridge, IL and Ocala, FL.

A Memorial Service for Tinka will be held in April 2019 at a time to be announced, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Morris Plains. Interment of her ashes will take place in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church’s Memorial Garden.
