Obituary of Owen Hudson

Owen J. Hudson, 94, former teacher at St. Benedict’s Prep School, Newark, retired Director of Development at Marymount Manhattan College, husband of Marilyn Weigh Hudson, of Randolph, NJ, passed peacefully in the presence of his wife and friends on Tuesday, December 22, 215 at Morris View Health Care Center, Morris Plains, NJ. A Mass of Resurrection will be offered on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at 10 AM at Notre Dame of Mount Carmel Church, Cedar Knolls, NJ, followed by the burial at Holy Rood Mausoleum, Morristown, NJ. Visitation is at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Ave., Morris Plains, NJ, on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Owen Hudson, a gentle, kind, loving, spiritual man, was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and summered at Lake Hopatcong, NJ. He lived in Newark and Morristown, NJ, before residing in Randolph, NJ, for the past 36 years. He was an avid golfer, jogger, gardener, and, most of all, a dear friend to many. He graduated from St. Benedict’s College, KS, and received his master’s degree from Catholic University of America, DC. Owen taught at St. Benedict’s Prep School, Newark, administered a high school and mobile clinic in the Bahamas, directed admissions at Delbarton School, Morristown, NJ, and was Director of Development for The Deafness Research Foundation, NY, The American Indian Affais, NY, Darlington Seminary, Mahwah, NJ, Marymount Manhattan College, NY. He was member of Notre Dame of Mount Carmel Church, Cedar Knolls, NJ, where he and his wife were a very involved ministry team. They chaired the RCIA process, developed and led the “Catholics Returning Home” program. Owen actively participated in Men’s Cornerstone ministry, the “Follow Me” faith-sharing program and served as mentor and Lector in the Proclaiming ministry. He and his wife were the parish recipients of the “Vivere Christus Est” Award in 2014. Owen was also a member of the Order of Saint Benedict and the Knights of Columbus. Owen was predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Anna Hudson; his sisters, Terese Hudson, Marie Pilutik, Regina Hudson, and Sister Kateri Hudson, SSJ. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marilyn Weigh Hudson, his sister, Evelyn Peterson; his mother-in-law, Mary Weigh; his sisters-in-law, Janet Quinn and her husband Bob; Frances Collins and her husband John; Mary Carol Fleming and her husband Jim, and by several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Owen’s name to Newark Abbey, 538 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Newark, NJ 07102 or to Saint Anne Villa, 190 Park Avenue, Florham Park, NJ 079332.
