Obituary of David E Jones

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David E. Jones, of Morristown, NJ, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016 at age 92 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife, Lois P. Jones; two sons, Bruce Jones (Elinor) of San Carlos, CA and Doug Jones (Barbara) of Midlothian, VA; and one granddaughter, Anna Leary Jones, also of Midlothian, VA. He was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth G. “Betty” Jones. David was born in Paterson, NJ, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a member of the Naval ROTC program and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Following graduation, he reported for active duty in the U.S. Navy, rising from Ensign to Lieutenant J.G. At the completion of his naval service, he entered the business world, and spent most of his career with the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P) in the accounting and information systems areas, building a special expertise in inventory control applications. He was an active member of The Presbyterian Church on the Green in Morristown, serving as an Elder, a Deacon, and as a long-time member of the Finance Committee. David was very involved with the Church’s scholarship programs. David remained active in church activities, income tax assistance, and investments up until his death. He was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, the New York Rangers, and the New York Football Giants. In his later years, he enjoyed a competitive game of Yahtzee with his granddaughter Anna, and had an impressive won-lost record, much to her dismay! Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 11 AM in the Sanctuary of the Presbyterian Church on the Green in Morristown. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Presbyterian Church in Morristown, 65 South Street, Morristown, NJ 07960.
