Obituary of Carmine F Cortese

Carmine Cortese, 83, of Morris Plains passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 1, 2016. He was born in Magisano, Italy and came to America in 1952 where he settled in Morristown. He has been a resident of Morris Plains since 1977. In 1963, along with his wife, Ann, he opened Alumacraft Company in Morristown and soon moved the business to Morris Plains. They transitioned the business to Final Touch in 1980. Most recently, he opened Regalo Gifts with his daughter, Maria, in 2013. He was a proud member of the Rotary Club of Morris Plains since 1980 where he became a Paul Harris Fellow and was recognized for 33 years of perfect attendance. He was also an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus in Morristown which he joined in 1969 where he achieved 3rd degree membership and he was also an Honorary Life Associate of the Morristown Columbian Club which he joined in 1964. Carmine enjoyed gardening, cooking, watching the New York Yankees with his wife, spending time with his grandchildren, and making wine and playing cards with his nephews. Carmine was born to Carmine Cortese and Mariantonia Garaffa in 1932. He is predeceased by his brother Antonio Cortese and his wife Venera, his sister Teresa Catizone and her husband Raffaele. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Earline Ann (Rumsey), his daughter Maria Scott and her husband David of Randolph, and his cherished grandchildren Amanda, Elyse, and David. He is also survived by his nephews, Pat Catizone of Cedar Grove, Carmine Cortese of Chester, and Carmine Catizone of Morristown; as well as his sister-in-law, Deanna Cicchetti, of Wharton, and her children, Aldo, Lisa, Chris , and Julie. Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 4-8pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A Funeral Mass for Carmine will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 10am at St. Margaret’s Church, 6 Sussex Avenue, Morristown. Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations in Carmine’s memory be made to the Rotary Club of Morris Plains, PO Box 153, Morris Plains, NJ 08950.
