Obituary of Michael Anthony Sagarese

Michael (“Izzy”) Anthony Sagarese, 87, of Whippany, passed away on June 13, 2016 at Care One at Whippany. Born and raised in Morristown, Michael resided in Whippany for the past 60 years. Michael graduated from Morristown High School in 1947. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Michael worked as a Butcher for Shop-Rite in Morristown for 35 years, before retiring in 1991. He was also a member of Notre Dame of Mount Carmel Church in Cedar Knolls, the Flynn Boys Football Club, and the Whippany American Legion. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Joan; his devoted children, Joseph Sagarese, and his wife, Nancy, and Lynda Sagarese and her wife, Katie Quigley. He is also survived by his beloved siblings, Barbara Smith, and Phyllis Sagarese, and his many cherished nieces and nephews. Michael was predeceased by his siblings, Lucy Ruocco, Patrick Allocco, Francis Cerelli, and Robert Sagarese. Family and friends are welcome to gather on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 from 4-8pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A Funeral Mass for Michael will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 10:00am at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel Church, 75 Ridgedale Avenue, Cedar Knolls. Interment will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, Morris Township. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in memory of Michael may be made to: a local Diabetes Foundation of one’s choice.
