Elizabeth "Betty " Bowden died Monday July 4, 2016 at the age of 91 surrounded by her family. Betty was daughter of Matilda and Thomas Barber of Summit and wife of Joseph Bowden of Morris Plains. She was predeceased by her beloved husband "Joe" and daughter Eileen along with her two brothers Norman and Thomas. Graduating from Bayley Ellard High School in Morristown and All Souls Hospital School of Nursing she went on to become an RN, a career which she excelled at and cherished. After retiring from active nursing she volunteered at St. Clare's Hospital for 25 years. One of her favorite activities was her participation in the St. Virgil's Prime Time Senior Group and the Morris Plains Senior Group. St. Virgils' was her home parish for over 60 years and all four of her children attended the school. She was a role model to her children, in-laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the community. One of her favorite locations was Loyola Retreat House in Morristown where she participated in 30 retreats. Most fun for her was her Red Hat Group, they travelled far and wide and thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and Betty was also a voracious reader. Betty is survived by her son Joseph and wife Linda, daughter Barb and husband Meade Butler and daughter Rosemary and husband Tom Grant. She had eleven grandchildren Jason, Jeremy, Joey, Summer, Kelly, Brent, Sean, Katie, Haley, Michael, Joanna and nine great grandchildren.
