Obituary of Hugo Brand

Please share a memory of Hugo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hugo T. Brand, 83, died suddenly at Spring Hills Assisted Living in Morristown, NJ, where he resided for the past several years. Many members of Hugo’s family visited with him. They celebrated together with him at a favorite local restaurant where they all laughed and gave a “toast“ of happiness and love to each other. While with Hugo, they helped to organize and make his new room comfortable and peaceful. Good-byes were said with hugs and kisses and waves of the hands until we would see each other again. After leaving him, and driving on the highway 45 minutes later in rush hour traffic, the “work of God” was delivered. Hugo had passed away suddenly in his room. He was the son of Hugo H. Brand and Katharine Pauline (Fink) Brand who moved from Germany to the United States in 1928. He worked for the Lackawanna Railroad as a plumber from 17 years old until his retirement. He was a US Army veteran during the Korean War. Hugo had many friends and always loved animals, especially dogs, as well as fishing and working on his antique cars. He was a survivor of “many struggles in life” but always appeared jolly and smiling. He gave a helping hand to those in need. He was a big man with a big heart. Hugo is survived by his sister, Sandra Gould and her husband, Harold, Amherst, MA, his sister-in-law, Anita Brand, Neustadt, Germany, and his nephews, Karl Brand and wife, Cheryl, Spring, Texas, Mark Brand and wife, Valerie, Corning, NY, Eric Brand and wife, Lisa, Elmira, NY, Jeffrey Gould and his wife, Christine, Skillman, NJ, and Christopher Gould and wife, Deborah, Pelham, MA, as well as nieces, Katherine Brand, Elmira, NY, Deborah Tice, and husband, Wayne, New Windsor, NY and several great- nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Roland S. Brand, Neustadt, Germany, two years ago. Family and friends are welcome to gather on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with a service at noon at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main St., Madison, NJ 07940. Interment will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery, Noe Ave and Shunpike Road, Madison, NJ.
