Obituary of Robert F Shaw

Robert F. Shaw, PhD, 76, (“Bob”) of Florham Park, NJ died peacefully at home on August 24.2016.He was born on October 2, 1939 in Fayetteville, NC. He attended North Carolina State University and completed his BS in Inorganic Chemistry with a minor in Nuclear Physics after which, he received his PhD in Solid State Physics from the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England. Dr. Shaw was later awarded the ScD (Doctor of Science) which is the highest degree awarded by the University of Cambridge for distinguished research in science. He also obtained his MBA in Management and Finance from Rutgers University, NJ and studied Electrical Engineering at University of Connecticut, CT. Dr. Shaw had a esteemed professional career holding many executive and directorial position such as; the President of Silag, Inc. Manager of New Business Development at Exxon Enterprises, and President of Robert Shaw Associates, Inc. Dr. Shaw was a member of many prestigious societies, authored more than 30 peer reviewed publications, published seven books and holds over 21 patents. Dr. Shaw was most recently a Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ, teaching courses in the Math, Physics and Computer Science Departments. He is survived by his wife Carol Ross; his daughters, Dr. Karen Patrick of MA, and Tamara Shaw of N.J.; stepson Jeffrey Ross, and his wife, Dawn; two grandchildren, Allison and Adam Ross; and his sister, Martha Shaw Brantley, of CA. He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth McDonald, of NC. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 1:00 PM in the Monninger Center’s Orangerie Room at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison, NJ. Sharing of memories, thoughts, or stories are welcome if anyone would like to do so. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, or Arthritis Foundation.
