Obituary of Andrew Hurley
Please share a memory of Andrew to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On October 10, 2016, the world lost a great man. Andrew Hurley lived an amazing life which ended much too soon at the age of 50. Andrew’s infectious smile, positive attitude and his steadfast loyalty to his family and friends made him simply the greatest husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend anyone could ask for. Andrew was, above all, consistently kind and a lot of fun.
Andrew was born on January 18, 1966 in New Brunswick, NJ. He grew up in New Vernon, NJ and attended Delbarton School where he made the most wonderful and faithful friends. He attended Boston College where he was blessed to make more special friends and meet the love of his life, Beth Vanacore. They were married on April 22, 1995 and made their home in Madison, NJ where they were close to family members and made many, many more friends.
Andrew’s greatest achievement is the wonderful family that he and Beth created. Andrew was happiest when he was with Beth and their children, Quinn, Sean, Grace and Mae. Andrew was very involved in his children’s lives and struck just the right balance of supporting them and driving them crazy with his sense of humor. Andrew’s love for his children and theirs for him was indescribable. Never wanting to sit still, the Hurleys loved to run, mountain bicycle, play paddle, cook great meals and enjoy time together at the Jersey Shore and on Cape Cod with their large extended family. Andrew always had a soft spot for dogs and was devoted to his faithful dog, Maya.
His parents, Hugh and Jeanne Hurley of Bay Head Shores, NJ, and his siblings Hugh and Bonnie Hurley of Skillman, NJ, Timothy and Carole Hurley of Hingham, MA, and Jeanne and Charlie Horsey of Madison, NJ and their 14 children will miss Andrew beyond measure. Andrew was also loved by his in-laws, Joe and Elaine Vanacore of Morristown, NJ. Beth’s siblings and their families also adored their brother-in-law Andrew. They include Carolyn and John Clark of Newton, MA, Nancy and Mike Stricklin of Wakefield, RI, Judy and Randy Christofferson of Wilmington, DE, Jill and Richard Reid of Princeton, NJ, Suzanne and Martin Durney of Maplewood, NJ, and Mark and Tricia Vanacore of Darien, CT, and their 22 children.
Andrew will always be remembered for his mischievous side. The crazy adventures of his friends are legendary. Ask one of them about the tighty whities. If you were a friend of Andrew’s, you had a friend for life. In joyful times and in challenging ones, he stood unwavering at your side. The tougher the challenge, the closer Andrew stood to you.
Professionally, Andrew was a very accomplished Executive Vice President of Chubb’s Real Estate and Hospitality Industry Practice. Andrew was well respected at Chubb by his colleagues and throughout the insurance industry. In keeping with Andrew’s ability to bring people together, he recently served on the transition team to help bring together Ace and Chubb after the merger of the two companies.
Andrew was passionate about life, he was funny, generous and both hard charging and a softie. Andrew Hurley is a role model for all of us. He was a man of great faith and we are comforted with the confidence that he is now in the arms of our Lord, cheering us all forward.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 2-4 & 6-9pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 10:30am at Delbarton (St. Mary’s Abbey), 230 Mendham Road, Morristown. Interment will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a college fund for Andrew & Beth’s Children, which can be found at https://www.gofundme.com/HAndrewHurley.
