Obituary of Dolores Peters Beardell

Please share a memory of Dolores to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dolores Marie Peters Beardell, 87 of Morris Plains, NJ, passed away on Thursday October 27th, 2016 at Mt. Sinai Hospital, in Manhattan, New York surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Dr. Anthony James Beardell who died in 1994. Born in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Nellie Peters. Dolores was a graduate of Marywood Seminary and Marywood College where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree and double major in French and English. She was a classical pianist studying with the Liva Conservatory in Scranton and worked as music critic for the Scranton Times for several years. Dolores also taught at the Lourdesmont Catholic School for troubled girls. She was a member of St. Ann’s Maronite Church in Scranton before moving to Washington, DC with her husband where she worked as librarian in the graduate Biology department of the Catholic University of America. Dolores with her husband spent the remainder of their lives in Morris Plains, NJ where they both fully embraced the joys and friendships their community had to offer. She was an active member of St. Virgil’s church, Morristown YMCA, and Idlewild pool and taught piano and French for over 20 years. Dolores during her earlier years enjoyed tennis, golf, skiing, horseback riding, and swimming and volunteered her time to the Morris Museum and Morris County nursing home. When her first grandchild was on his way, she took up knitting with the same passion she approached every new stage in her life. Dolores was always engaged in learning new skills. She was an accomplished seamstress, writer, created many watercolor paintings, was a gifted cook, an avid reader, played bridge, and was a fierce backgammon opponent. During her later years she would join her friends for classes at the YMCA, attend daily mass, bible study, and spend time with friends and family. She maintained a beautiful home for all to enjoy. Spiritual life was an integral part of her spirit. Dolores’s zest for life and loving friendships with so many wonderful people will be very dearly missed. Surviving are three daughters; Maria Wilson and husband Jim, Dalton, PA; and Paula Krieg and husband Bill, Salem, NY; Antonia Russell and husband Robert, Doylestown, PA; seven grandchildren; Thomas, Eleanor, John William, Angela, Geneva Marie, Robert, Anthony James; one brother Dr. Charles P. Peters and wife Deborah Quirk, Towson, Md.,; nieces and nephews including Michele Peters McCann and Maryellen Peters Walsh of Monmouth County, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother Dr. Joseph J. Peters of Gwyned Valley, Pa. The family wishes to thank her caregiver Nina, the doctors and staff at Mt. Sinai Hospital Heart and her many loving friends for their care and prayers. Family and friends are welcome to gather on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 2-4 pm only at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Ave, Morris Plains, NJ 07950. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 10:3am at St. Virgil’s Church, 250 Speedwell Ave., Morris Plains, NJ. Interment will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, Morristown, NJ.
