Obituary of Anthony J. Carracino
Please share a memory of Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anthony J. Carracino, of Delray Beach, Florida and Madison New Jersey, passed away on November 14th after a short illness. He was born on June 2, 1918 in Newark, New Jersey and was one of five boys born to Nicola and Angelina Carracino. He was a brilliant student in high school, graduated third in his class and was awarded the prestigious Bamberger scholarship medal. He then received a scholarship to Newark College of Engineering where he continued to excel and graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. After college, he worked for Dupont for a short time and then volunteered for the Army Air Force cadet school in December of 1942 where he studied to be a weather officer and gained the rank of second lieutenant. Shortly after, he married Michelina Melito, the love of his life and they celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary earlier this year. After the war, he joined Schering Corporation (now Merck) and worked in various executive positions culminating in his last assignment as Director of Manufacturing. He retired in 1983 and spent much of his time in Florida pursuing his passion for golf, family and friends. He continued playing golf until a few months ago, amazing everyone he met on the course once they discovered his age.
Beyond the facts of his life, what must truly be said is that he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His integrity was the backbone of his character along with his kindness and compassion. He was always optimistic and never complained about hardships even though he had known many growing up during the depression. He had a warm and welcoming smile and people always felt good in his presence. This was a man who touched many lives and will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Michelina, his daughters, Grace Johnson and Marilyn Carracino, his granddaughter, Allison Shaw, her husband, Doug Shaw, and his brother, Nicholas Carracino.
