Obituary of Ruby F. Schwarz
Please share a memory of Ruby to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruby Fern Schwarz, born November 1st, 1930 in Lexington Kentucky, was raised as an only child within a large, closely knit, extended family. Ruby’s family heritage incudes some of the earliest English, Irish and Swiss settlers of Massachusetts, Maryland and North Carolina. Members of Ruby’s family served their country during many wars dating back to the American Revolution.
Ruby met her husband Charles O. Schwarz, Jr. (Charlie) during a “blind date” arranged while he was serving at Fort Knox, Kentucky. This date lead to a lifelong loving relationship and a sixty-four-year marriage.
After marrying, Ruby and Charlie moved from Kentucky to Morris Plains, New Jersey and started a family. Ruby was a loving mother to three children, Claudia Whetstine (deceased), Charles O. Schwarz III (Chuck) of Ghent, New York and JoHannah Dadoly of Princeton, New Jersey. Ruby also loved her Boston Terrier dogs.
Ruby worked for the Bell Telephone companies of Kentucky and New Jersey and for Verizon at the Morristown office as an Information Operator. She was an active volunteer at Morristown Memorial Hospital as a Pink Lady. Ruby and Charlie enjoyed traveling with friends including trips with the Tall Cedars organization. She cherished her time spent with family at her son Chuck’s farm in the Hudson Valley region of New York. She especially enjoyed her last eleven years as a resident of the Cedar Crest community in Pompton Plains, New Jersey.
Ruby will be greatly missed by her loving husband and her children.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8pm on Tuesday November 22 at the Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains, NJ. A service will be conducted as part of the visitation starting at 7:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ASPCA or The American Heart Association.
