Obituary of Robert E. Nace

Robert "Bob" E. Nace, former resident and Mayor of Morris Township, NJ and most recently a resident of Marco Island, Florida, passed into external life on April 10, 2019. Well loved by family and friends, Bob was known for his strong faith, kind heart, compassion for others, and wonderful sense of humor. Passionate about preserving the township's open spaces, a major focus of his public service centered on improving the township's parks and recreational facilities. Whether in New Jersey or Marco Island, many fondly remember sharing stories and catching up with him over coffee at Dunkin Donuts.

Bob and his wife Judy were married in 1997 in Killarney Ireland. He belonged to the Church of the Assumption in Morristown, NJ and San Marco Church, FL, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, George Washington Council, Morristown.

Bob, the oldest son of Elwood and Valencia Nace, was born in Harrisburg, PA. A graduate of John Harris High School, he was also an Eagle Scout with Bronze, Silver and Gold Palms and eventually became Assistant Scout Master for his troup. After graduating from Harrisburg Area Community College, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War from 1966-1969. Stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, he developed expertise in computer sciences which became his lifelong profession. He first used these skills while working at the PA Department of Environmental Resources in the 1970's to computerize the national geological survey maps, aiding in efforts to protect the environment. Bob was a member of the Morristown Post 59 American Legion.

Bob was a proud member and Past-President of the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick, Morris County and the Irish American Association of Northwest Jersey. He was an active supporter of the Morris County Saint Patrick's Day Parade and served on the Board of Trustees. In 2007, he was honored to serve as Grand Marshal.

Bob served as a Morris Township Committee Member from 1998-2006 and as Mayor from 2006-2008. After retiring as Information Systems Manager for the Morris County Park Commission, he moved with his wife Judy to Marco Island, FL. Always wanting to serve others and never quite committed to full retirement, he went on to private consulting and also served as President of the Harbor Boat Club Board up until his death.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Judy; two brothers, Daryl L. Nace (Gloria) of Camp Hill, PA and Dr. David A. Nace (Dr. Erika) of Wexford, PA; his sister and brother-in-law Dr. Mary Louise and Dr. Paul Fleury; his daughter Jennifer; along with his very much cherished nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday May 24, 2019 at the Church of the Assumption in Morristown, NJ.
