Greg was my Phi Psi brother at Bucknell in the '60s. We shared basketball, hanging around, and dealing with the hurdles, peaks and valleys of college life. For three years we learned to respect and genuinely like each other, as though we were blood brothers. Although we parted ways for several decades afterwards, we probably, mutually and subconsciously, looked forward to re-uniting at fraternity reunions in the past few years; I know I certainly did. And I'm so glad we had lunch together (thanks SLL) last year. As we told stories and talked about our life journeys, I knew how Greg must've handled every life challenge, before he finished each story. Because I had known him so well during the years his wonderful character had formed. I'm missing him deeply, even more so because I will not be able to attend his life celebration ceremony in a few days. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to Greg's family.

Greg Helsel was a class act. Am tearing up as I realize he has passed.
Not only was Greg a brilliant and kind man, he loved his family and stood by them.
Not only was he a dog and people lover, a history buff and a natural athlete, he served his country in Vietnam and was a great neighbor and Dad.
I do not know if his sister is around, but he spoke of her with kindness and love.
Greg taught my son Matt and his son Chris the name of every bird that flew in our yards. He told me his Dad taught him about birds. This was the kind of mind he had--a mind for detail of history, nature, and numbers, too.
Chris and Liz, we are so sad for you.
We are away on the 29th or would be in Morristown.
Peace be with you. We all send our hugs to you.

I was stunned to learn of Greg's passing. He will be sorely missed. We spent many happy hours on the tennis court and a couple of passable rounds of golf. Once we both moved from Ridgewood, the sporting events declined, but we still had a regular schedule of breakfast meetings to talk investments and catch-up life. My deepest condolences to all of you. Please feel free to reach out if there is anything I can do.

Dear Chris, Liz & Family, we send our condolences and deepest sympathy. He was truly one of the good guys. I cannot fathom the number of hours we spent at Ridgewood athletic events and Dad’s Night. May his memory be eternal. Stay strong.
