Obituary of Claire Ann Gill

Claire A. Gill died on August 5, 2019 after a short illness. She was 92 years old.

Claire, daughter of James B. and Beatrice Deerin was born and raised in South Orange, NJ and attended Our Lady of The Valley High School.  She married her husband, John Gill, in South Orange and went on to raise her family there and in Maplewood before moving to Chatham Township, NJ in 1971.

 As a mother of five, she was very active in her church and at her childrens’ schools, specifically Our Lady of Sorrows, Seton Hall Prep, and Marylawn of the Oranges.  Claire was an active member and volunteer at Corpus Christi Parish for over 40 years.   She was very involved   with the Altar Society.  She had a very strong faith in God and in helping others.  Some of Claire’s other volunteer jobs were in the Chatham Township school system, Morristown Memorial Hospital, Overlook Hospital and The Library of the Chathams.

Claire and Jack are members of Fairmount Country Club where Claire enjoyed many years of golf.  She earned the title of 9 Hole Champ twice during her playing years.  She was also an avid tennis player when not playing golf.

Claire is survived by her husband of 70 years, John G. Gill of Morris Township.  She is also survived by five children, Stephen and his wife Jeannie(Cassidy) of Madison, NJ; David and his wife Peggy(Brady) of Mendham, NJ; Kevin and his wife Joan(Meisol) of Charlotte, NC; Cindy Gill and her husband John Crowley of Wolfeborough, NH and Cathy and her husband Mike Segers of Geneva, IL.  Claire has 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her grandson Michael Gill.

The viewing will be held at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, Madison, NJ on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 from 4:00-7:00pm. The funeral mass will be at Corpus Christi Church , Chatham, NJ on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 10:00am.  The internment of the ashes will be private
