Obituary of Anthony Barone
Please share a memory of Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anthony Barone, 95, passed away on January 11, 2017 in Madison, NJ. He was born in New York City and lived in Brooklyn, NY, prior to moving to Madison in 2010.
Anthony worked as a carpenter for the New York City Board of Education for 30 years until his retirement in 1985. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as well as in the Navy Reserves.
Anthony is survived by his daughter, Connie Anderson, and her husband, David; and his son, Anthony Barone, and his wife, Andrea; as well as five grandchildren, Christopher, Suzanne, Michael Anderson and his wife, Kaitlyn, Lauren Currie and her husband, Edward, Nicole Cerrato and her husband, James, as well as three great-gandchildren, Edward, Juliana, and Anthony. Anthony was predeceased by his wife, Augusta Barone, in July 2010.
Anthony loved music, especially opera and Italian Neapolitan songs. He was an avid gardener and every spring and summer he cultivated a very large garden and then spent weeks delivering the vegetables to family, friends, and neighbors. In his spare time he followed baseball and was a fan of the New York Yankees.
At the age of 88, he climbed all 551 steps to the top of St. Peter’s Basilica dome. He was always ready to pack a suitcase and travel.
He loved watching game shows, Dancing with the Stars, the History Channel, National Geographic, PBS and a host of comedy shows. In the summer, he was fixated on the stars and the universe and never missed an opportunity to school one on the galaxy.
He will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at Washington’s Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940 on Monday, January 23, 2017, at 2:00 pm.
