I met Andy nearly 56 years ago when we were both recent hires at Western Electric Company after graduating from college. We were living in the same apartment building in North Carolina when Andy met and married Birte. Over the years, we kept in touch through Christmas cards, Emails, telephone calls, and, on rare occasions, with a visit. Andy was one of the nicest and most considerate people I have ever known, and I will miss him.

I first met Andy at a meeting of the New Jersey Butterfly Club. I soon discovered he was good company with his easy smile and sense of humor. And he made the BEST cookies. I also saw him with regularity at the Randolph YMCA warm water exercise pool where we worked on muscle improvement. I feel happy to have had the opportunity to know him. Condolences to all his family members.

After exchanging emails with Andy for a few years, I got to meet him this past January. He was bright, charming, engaging and optimistic. We talked about his plans to add some native plants to his garden to attract the birds and butterflies that he so enjoyed. He generously donated magazines to the North Jersey Butterfly Club so that others could learn about and enjoy the beautiful winged creatures. We are all sorry we will no longer get to be able to go on a nature walk with Andy.

Here is a green candle in honor of Andy, who generously spent time and effort so that metal from discarded objects could be made useful again. Morris Plains is a special community, and Andy contributed to making it so. My condolences to the Jensen family.

Fred and I knew Andy from the North American Butterfly Association. Andy was a joy to be around, had fun learning about butterflies and made incredibly delicious cookies for us at every meeting. We were blessed to have known him. Patti Pfeifer

Birte and family, I am so sad to get the news of Andy!
He was a wonderful friend and we had many good times in the field looking for butterflies.
My deepest sympathies go out to you. Andy and his good spirit will be missed very much.

My goodness, Tom and I have known Andre (Andy) and his family for 46 years! First, we knew Andy and Birte, along with Noelle and Christian, their children, because they were neighbors. Later on, I spent lots of time with Andy because he was a very devoted member of the Morris Plains Recycling Committee, of which I was also a member. He was an especially hard-working volunteer at Reimer Recycling Center on Rt. 53 in Morris Plains, where he spent countless hours dismantling metal appliances in order to fit as much metal in the roll-off container as he possibly could. He was always optimistic about the possibility of recycling additional material in Morris Plains. The Borough of Morris Plains was so grateful to him for all of his work at the recycling center that it placed a bench named "Andy's Bench" near the metal roll-off for Andy to sit on as he plied his trade. Interestingly, it was as a result of meeting one of his relatives at a Jensen family gathering that I learned about Gehenna, an area outside the gates of Jerusalem, which was a fiery place where garbage was dumped at one time; the word "Gehenna" means "hell." There is no question that Andy wanted resources to be reused or recycled, to reach a heavenly destination rather than a hellish one! Planet Earth has indeed lost a very good citizen in the person of Andy. Tom and I send our deepest sympathy to Birte, Noelle, Soren, Christian, Elizabeth, and Margaux Jensen. Penny Jones
