Mary Stirling Campbell, 90, of Madison, NJ, passed peacefully at her home on May 15, 2020. Born in Irvington, NJ, Mary lived in Madison for 64 years. She summered in Sea Girt, NJ for over 70 years where her favorite pastimes were sitting on the beach, boardwalk, or her front porch. Mary graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ where she met her beloved husband, William H. Campbell III and many life-long friends. She went on to graduate from Skidmore College in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Before her retirement in 2000, Mary worked at the Madison Public Library for 25 years – a perfect job because of her love of reading. Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon, Madison Thursday Morning Club, AAUW and Skidmore Alumni Association. Mary is survived by her devoted children, William H. Campbell IV (Marinel Elacion), Cynthia DeMarco (Lenny), Nancy Campbell, Linda Campbell (Steph Pappas) and Frederick Campbell-Mohn (Celia). Mary is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, Emily Rose DeMarco and Emma Mary Campbell-Mohn and dear sisters-in-law, Shirley Mangin and Lydia Campbell, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Mary was predeceased by her husband, William (April 1991), and siblings, Jean Ann and John. Donations in Mary’s memory can be made to the Friends of the Madison Public Library, 39 Keep Street, Madison, NJ 07940 or First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon, 2 Lees Hills Road, New Vernon, NJ 07976. The Campbell family is concerned about the well-being of those they love and care about. A private burial will take place at St. Stephen's Cemetery, Millburn with a memorial service to be held at a future date.
