Obituary of Robert F. Wheaton III

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert F. Wheaton III, 54, of Hillsborough, NJ, formerly of Chatham, NJ, passed away on June 11, 2020 at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. Born in Overlook Hospital in Summit, Rob lived in Sudbury, MA, Bernardsville, NJ, Chatham, NJ and lastly, Hillsborough, NJ for the past 13 years. Rob graduated from Bernards High School in 1984 and attended New England College. Rob was a Technical Sales Representative in North America for Bio/Data Corporation in Horsham, PA for nearly the past 6 years, and had a passion for helping people, especially children, through his work with the Bio/Data PAP-8 which he sold, installed and serviced in the U.S. and Canada and for which he assisted in technical support globally. He was a member of the Harlingen Reformed Church and formerly of the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township (PCCT). Rob enjoyed cooking and catering, and participated in many BBQ and chili competitions, but also did fundraising work for Habitat for Humanity through PCCT. He was Cub Master for the local Boy Scouts when his sons were younger and himself was an Eagle Scout when growing up. Rob loved all kinds of music, but particularly Classic Rock, and especially Rush, Boston, Led Zeppelin and the Foo Fighters. He had a passion for Ford Mustangs, and drove them most of his life. He was an experienced skier, and enjoyed golfing (winning several driving contests), and was a talented soccer, baseball and tennis player. He loved watching football (especially when his son, Ryan, was playing for the Hillsborough Raiders and on the USA National Football Team), watching Ryan throw (Track and Field events) and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan all of his life. Most importantly, Rob loved being with his family, friends and pets and visiting Weekapaug, Rhode Island where he visited his family’s home for many summers when he was growing up. He was most comfortable in jeans, a sweatshirt and a baseball cap, whether it was for the Red Sox, UK (University of Kentucky) Wildcats, Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers or Hillsborough Raiders, and almost never a day passed when he wasn’t in one of his many baseball caps. Rob was so proud of his sons, all their past achievements, and will be watching over all of their future endeavors and successes, especially the college graduation of his older son, Rob, in just a few months from the Engineering College at UK. Rob is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Sherry W. Wheaton. Rob and Sherry have been together for 33 years and married for 27 of those wonderful years. He is also survived by his cherished sons, Robert F. Wheaton IV and Ryan A. Wheaton, his beloved mother, Carol Cary Wheaton, devoted siblings, Kristine (Frank) Suszczynski and William A. (Deanna) Wheaton, caring nieces and nephews, Benjamin Suszczynski, Timothy Suszczynski, William Wheaton, Samantha Wheaton and Savannah Wheaton, devoted uncle, David (Kathleen) Wheaton, beloved cousins and in-laws, Ginny and Geoff Wilson and countless good friends and co-workers. The outpouring of support and love from all of them has been amazing and so much appreciated by his family. The Wheaton family is concerned about the well-being of those they love and care about. A Celebration Of Life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Harlingen Reformed Church, 34 Dutchtown Harlingen Road, Belle Mead, NJ 08502 at 11 am. We ask that you please keep Rob’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
