Obituary of Thomas J. Creighton, III
Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thomas J. Creighton III, age 66, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 27, 2020. “Tommy” as he was affectionately called by his friends and family, was born in Orange, NJ and grew up alongside his four sisters in South Plainfield, NJ. Tommy graduated from South Plainfield High School in 1972 and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Kean College. In 1978, Tommy married his high school sweetheart, Kathryn and eventually moved to Bridgewater where they raised their two children and had resided for over 30 years. After graduating college, an opportunity arose to enter into the computer science industry and Tommy took it. He became a computer programmer for Mutual Benefit Life and commuted to Newark for many years, often driving the company’s commuter van. He later became a professional systems programmer analyst for CSC, which more recently became DXC Technology and worked at the Baker and Taylor office in Bridgewater, NJ. While he never did go on to become a physical education teacher, Tommy maintained his love for sports and athletics. He coached his children’s youth sports teams, always attended his family’s sporting events, stayed active at the gym, golfed, and enjoyed playing on a local Men’s softball league (even into his 60’s).
One of Tommy’s favorite things to do was to spend time with his family and friends on Long Beach Island. He enjoyed fishing whether it be on a boat or in the surf, boogey boarding, watching the sunrise and walking to the end of the street to see the sunset. He was fortunate to live on a block full of wonderful neighbors who had become great friends over the years.
Tommy is survived by his children, Karin Wolosz and her husband, Matthew, of Madison, NJ, and Jeffrey Creighton of Bethlehem, PA. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Derek and Caroline Wolosz and his dear sisters Patricia Cullinane (Michael), Barbara Murphy, Nancy Callahan (Richard); as well as his many nieces and nephews. Thomas is pre deceased by his Wife, Kathryn Creighton, his parents Margaret and Thomas J. Creighton Jr., his sister Kathleen Creighton, and his in laws, George and Ruth Lee.
A memorial visitation will be held at Burroughs, Kohr, Dangler Funeral home in Madison, NJ on Thursday, July 9 from 4-6pm in which all are welcome to attend. Due to current restrictions with indoor gathering, a private service will be held after visitation hours. The service will also be accessible virtually via Zoom. Please email danglerfuneralhomes@gmail.com for the login information.
Thankfully, Tommy’s life was extended due to multiple blood transfusions and a bone marrow transplant. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood or registering to be a bone marrow donor at bethematch.org.
