I remember Rich well. He was certainly a devoted family man and husband, a caring boss, and a kind and humorous fellow.
I worked for Rich. He wanted to see me for just a few minutes to give him a quick review of the day's happenings of my group's work--as to anything that might need him to make a call to a certain uncooperative person the next day. I remember he always called home after I arrived at his office and before I started my spiel, to ask Mrs. Goldstein what she might want him to go get for her on his way home. He would tell me on Fridays his "honey do list" for the weekend, like redo the kitchen floor and other such things. I would say: "I wish I could give my husband a Honey Do List that might stick." Rich would say: "It's all in the training....You need to take a lesson on how to train a husband from Mrs. Goldstein."
Rich will be sorely missed on this earth. He is in Heaven, and smiling down lovingly to his loved ones, his family.

Susan & family, I was very saddened to hear of Rich’s passing. As you know Rich and I worked together for a number of years. During the final years of the CAD Lab, Rich did a lot of the work required to move us from serving internal customers to expanding into commercial markets. Much of this work fell to Rich. He had to create from nothing the business side of a Bell labs development lab. I still have some of the budgets that he put together from that time. Looking back at that work makes me remember how much I owed to Rich. He took on the tough jobs and did them well. We were very lucky to have Rich in the CAD Lab. He is well remembered.

Being one of the younger peers at Bell Labs, I benefited from Rich's great support and learned a lot from his experience. Well, I also started to enjoy classical music after listening to Rich's beautiful playing of Chopin Ballad 3 & 4 at your house. I stood on the side and was amazed not just at the lovely tunes, fluid finger movements, but was drafted into the Ballad's through Rich's fully immersed expressions. My deepest condolence and may Rich rest in peace.

I met Rich when I joined Bell Labs in the mid 90's. We worked together until our organization was purchased by Cadence Design Labs at which time I left to start a business. During those few years, we got to know each other a little but my fondest memory was being at his home for a party and finding out that Rich was an accomplished pianist. We (several of us) asked him to play but he was too modest. After a lot of prodding he finally sat down and gave us a short concert. It was beautiful. It was as good as I had ever heard outside of the concert halls in NYC. I will never forget that night. My sympathy goes with the family and all who knew him.
