Obituary of Anna Murphy

Anna Murphy (nee DeVincenzo), age 93, of Parsippany, formerly of Bogota, NJ, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 18, 2020. The eldest of six children of the late Anthony and Filomena DeVincenzo, Anna was born and raised in Newark, NJ. A talented artist, she graduated from Arts High School in Newark in 1945. In 1951 she married James Murphy at St. Rose of Lima Church, and in 1955, they moved to Bogota where they raised their family and resided for 60 years. Anna was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church and a member of the Auxiliary of VFW Ralph H. Hall Post#5561, Bogota. When her children were older, Anna returned to work as a sales associate at Stern’s, Paramus, retiring in 1989 after 16 years of service. In retirement Anna and James enjoyed travelling throughout the United States. Anna will be lovingly remembered by family and friends for her kind heart and quick wit. Predeceased by her husband in 2017, Anna is survived by her devoted children, James (and Eileen), Kathleen, Michael (and Nancy), Patricia, Joseph (and Teresa) and Elizabeth; and her cherished grandchildren, Patrick (and Shira), James (and Andrew), Slava, Kailani, Natalia, Kathryn, Andrei, Lauren, Joseph and Keilana, and great-grandson, Michael. Anna leaves behind her dear brother, Michael DeVincenzo and was predeceased by her sisters, Louise La Ferrera, Josephine Bocchino, Geraldine Gamarro and her brother, Anthony DeVincenzo. Visitation will be held at Burroughs Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ on Tuesday, September 22 from 6-8 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison, NJ on Wednesday, September 23 at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org. Given the current public health situation, while social distancing and masks will be observed at the services, the family understands if you are not comfortable attending, and knows that your prayers and thoughts are with them during this time.
