Obituary of Roy J. Gartrell

Roy J. Gartrell, 93, of Morris Plains, NJ passed away peacefully on Tuesday night, Oct 13th. Roy was born in Staten Island, NY the son of Leslie and Margaret Gartrell. He honorably served in the armed forces in WWII and the Korean War. Roy and his wife Janet raised their two sons Brian and Douglas in Ringwood, NJ, where they enjoyed living in the country; skiing; and playing golf. He retired from a long and successful accounting career at Chemical Bank in NYC. Roy most recently lived with his dear friends at Arbor Terrace in Morris Plains, where he enjoyed painting and learning to speak and write in French. Roy will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Douglas and Brian, grandsons, Alexander and Benjamin, sister Joan, and his nieces, Christine, Beth, Ellen, Joan, Susan, and Cathy. Roy was predeceased by wife, Janet, in 2009. Family and friends are welcome to gather on Sunday, October 18, 2020 from 2-4pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A Funeral Mass for Roy will be held on Monday, October 19, 2020 at 10:30am at St. Virgil's Church, 250 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Given the current public health situation, while social distancing and masks will be observed at the services, the family understands if you are not comfortable attending, and knows that your prayers and thoughts are with them during this time.
