Obituary of Leonardo Patrone
Please share a memory of Leonardo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leonardo Patrone, 87, of Staten Island, NY passed away on October 27, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Ferrandina, Italy, Leonardo came to America as a young man, without a dollar in his pocket and not a word of English. Through his strong work ethic and belief that he would succeed, he learned the language, became a citizen and succeeded in his American dream. Although his career was in mens fashion, his most famous financial quotes still hold true today, "if you want something just work harder and you'll get it" and "it's not how much you make but how much you spend"! Although he lived in Staten Island the past three years, he resided in Brooklyn for most of his life.
Professionally, Leonardo completed his 4-year residency in Rome, Italy in fine Italian tailoring, under the same programs that produced Brioni's most highly regarded tailoring standards. He eventually became a Master Tailor and for over 40 years fitted many custom suits while working at Brooks Brothers and Paul Stewart's in NYC. His children would often laugh at his stories of celebrities and politicians he would fit in fine clothing, when he never realized or cared for their status or fame. His passion for this country only came second to one thing, his family. Simply put, he lived and loved for his family, believing that family was all that mattered. Never wanting or needing superficial things, he enjoyed providing for his children not because he needed but wanted to. He loved his children with reckless abandonment, often living vicariously in their happiness and wanting nothing more than the absolute best for them. He was a man of unshakable conviction, a man of integrity and honor. He believed strongly in loyalty to family, in goodness and to people in his circle was always the most trustworthy person they knew.
Leonardo was a parishioner of St. Simon & Jude Church in Brooklyn, NY and is survived by his loving wife, Concetta; and his devoted children, Dominick Patrone, and his wife Doreen, of Madison, NJ, and Rosa Giovinazzi, and her husband, Robert, of Massapequa Park, NY. He is also survived by his beloved brothers, Giuseppe Patrone, of Staten Island, NY, and Vito Patrone, of Ferrandina, Italy; and his cherished grandchildren, Maggie, Sara Jane, Bobby, and Adrianna.
A Funeral Mass for Leonardo will be held on Monday, November 2, 2020 at 10:00am at St. Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison, NJ. For those who wish to attend the Mass virtually, it will be live-streamed on the Church's website (www.svmnj.org). Interment will follow at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Madison, NJ.
