Obituary of Ann Mellilo McCarty

Ann Mellilo McCarty, 91 passed away peacefully on October 29th at the Morris View Healthcare Center, Morristown, NJ. Ann was born in Pittston, PA, and moved to Newark, NJ where she met her beloved husband Ralph J Mellilo. They were married for 47 loving years. Ann is predeceased by her husband, Ralph J Mellilo, her parents James & Laura Ryan, her sister Jean Kiel, brother James F Ryan and cherished son Michael Mellilo. She will be remembered for her devotion to family. Her loving and compassionate heart never turned away from anyone who needed help. She was a caring daughter and sister, devoted wife, loving grandmother, aunt and friend. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She enjoyed every family celebration always with a camera in her hand. She loved the holidays, especially St Patrick’s Day. In 1984 she proudly served as Deputy Grand Marshall of the Newark St Patrick’s Day Parade along side James McCarty who she would marry in 2000. They resided in Old Bridge until his death in 2008. Ann is survived by her daughter Jeanne Leary (Richard). “Grandma Annie” will be missed by her beloved grandchildren PJ Scriffignano (Kerry), Scott Scriffignano, Danielle Decker (Ryan), Jennifer Mellilo and great granddaughter Wren Scriffignano and many loving nieces and nephews. Philip Scriffignano and Josephine Mellilo held a special place in her heart. Family and friends are welcome to gather following CDC guidelines (Social Distancing & Masks Required) on Tuesday, November 3 from 4-7 at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Ave, Morris Plains. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov 4th at 10:30am at St Virgil’s Church, 250 Speedwell Ave, Morris Plains. For those who wish to attend the Mass virtually, it will be live-streamed on the Church's website (www.stvirgilparish.org). Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Memories and expressions of sympathy for the family may be shared at www.danglerfuneralhomes.com.
