Dr. James W. Schroeder, a psychologist in private practice in Livingston, NJ for forty years, died peacefully at his home in Florham Park with his beloved wife, Laura Boss, by his side. Born in Jersey City on April 17, 1933, he grew up in the Heights section and received his Ph. D from Fordham University. He was a popular and much-loved psychologist until his retirement four years ago. Before he entered private practice, he was Director of Special Services for the Livingston School System for 15 years. He proudly served with the United States Army in Japan shortly after the Korean War. He rose to Staff Sergeant in only one year. He is survived by the love of his life the poet, Laura Boss, and his children from previous marriages: Susan Dickson, Erika Mirho, Lisa Ausman (David), from his marriage to Patricia Ann Larson; Jamie Branch (Dustin) from his marriage to Phylis Steinberg Barnett and grandchildren, Bill Genovese, Max Mirho, Marla Mirho, Matthew Ausman, and Harper Branch. He is also survived by stepchildren, Brian Barnett (Jen), Lisa Munjack (Neil), and Barry Boss (Cathy). He is also survived by step grandchildren, Tyler, Jessica, and Ella Barnett, Dylan and Justin Munjack Amanda Boss, Bianca Boss, Teddy Boss, and Marley Boss. He is pre-deceased by his stepson, Jeffrey Boss, his third wife, Rena Rothfeld, Esq. and his brother, John Schroeder. Dr. Schroeder was a world traveler and voracious reader and an expert on the history of WWII. He enjoyed the companionship of his rescue dog, Toffee. He was especially grateful for the exceptional devotion of his two daughters, Lisa Ausman and Jamie Branch throughout his last illness. He will be missed by his family, friends, and countless patients he helped over the years. Funeral Services are private at this time. A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date when things are once again safe. Arrangements are under the care of Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, Madison.
