Joan was born in Wallace, Idaho to Ruth and Francis Thayer and later moved to Jackson Heights, Queens, N.Y. Joan and her late brother, Paul Thayer, moved to Madison, N.J. as teenagers. Joan had fond memories of working at Chubb Insurance. Joan married Richard A. Ruzicka on April 18, 1959, and moved to Florham Park, N.J. where she spent the remainder of her life.
