Obituary of Charles O'Leary

Charles (“Charlie”) O’Leary, 76, of Toms River, formerly of Florham Park, passed away on November 14, 2020 peacefully after a short illness. Charlie was born in Perth Amboy, NJ to Charles and Jean O’Leary in 1944. He grew up in Metuchen, and following high school graduation, attended Marshall University, where he was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. He earned a bachelor’s degree in History in 1969. After graduation, he joined his father at Kenyon and Sons, Inc., serving as the secretary-treasury of the firm. He subsequently joined Weichert Realtors, first as an independent agent, and then in various corporate positions for over 30 years. He retired in 2018. Charlie was a parishioner of St. Vincent Martyr Church in Madison, NJ. Charlie is survived by his daughter, Kim Walsh and her husband Mike of Madison as well as his beloved grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher Walsh also of Madison. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Tony Defilippis, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Jodie, his wife, who passed in 2001. Charlie remained devoted to her in the many years since her death, finding comfort in her memory. His parents, Charles and Jean O’Leary preceded him in death in 1977. He adored his grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher, and loved watching them play youth sports and achieve their respective academic goals. In addition to his love for his family, Charlie’s happiest times were at the Jersey Shore. In his younger years, he served as a lifeguard for the Sunset Manor section of North Lavallette and proudly owned a home there for many decades. He was a kind and gentle man who always put others before himself. He will be greatly missed by so many. A Celebration of Charlie's Life will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021 from 2-4 pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison.
