Obituary of Esther Cerrato

Please share a memory of Esther to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Esther (nee Timpanaro) Cerrato, 101 years old, lifelong resident of Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, NY and recently of Summit, NJ passed away on January 9, 2021. As a young girl, she was head librarian at the Brooklyn Public Library in Park Slope before marrying her childhood sweetheart Anthony “Boots” to whom she was married to for 76 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved spending time traveling with her husband to St. Martin in the Caribbean for over 30 years. They also toured Italy many times, London, Paris, Switzerland, Florida and of course the infamous…Atlantic City. Esther and Tony spent every summer at their beach house in Bradley Beach, NJ and loved just rocking on their porch and being with their family. She was a superb cook and loved sharing her culinary skills with her family. She was also a longtime member of St. Agnes Parish in Brooklyn and their “50 Plus Club”, until her move to New Jersey. Esther was always seen walking along the streets of Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn with her friends enjoying their afternoon lunches. After a mild stroke in 2009 and a full recovery, she moved from her beloved Brooklyn home to Morristown, NJ to be closer to her family. In 2015, she retired to Summit, NJ along with her husband Tony. Esther’s main passion in life was her husband who passed in December 2018. Her beautiful memories of their life together were what she reminisced about every day…with a tear in her eyes. It was a life well lived. She is survived by her son Michael, of Brooklyn, NY, her daughter Lois and her husband, George, of Morris Plains, NJ; her granddaughters, Toni Lipari, of New York City, NY, and Jennifer Morrison and her husband James of Chatham, NJ; her great-granddaughters, “the loves of her life”, Eva, Lola & Harper; as well as her siblings, Vicky Liscandrella and Connie Ignari, of Long Island, NY; and many nieces and nephews who are near and dear to her heart. Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, January 14, 2021 from 5-7pm (*Adhering to CDC Guidelines – Social Distancing & Masks Required) at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A Graveside/Prayer Service will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 10:30am at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in memory of Esther may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
