Obituary of Jennie Rose Ivens
Please share a memory of Jennie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jennie Rose Ivens passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 7, 2021 in the company of her two loving sons. She was 99.
Jennie was born in Bernards Township, New Jersey in 1921, as the fourth of five children to Carmine and Anna (Di Pillo) Petriccione. She spent most of her growing up time in Bernardsville and graduated from Bernards High School, class of 1939.
She and her husband, Ray, were married in 1946. They lived in Newark and Bernardsville before moving to Hanover Township in 1952 where they made their permanent home and raised a daughter and two sons. They were married for 40 years at the time of Ray’s passing in 1986. Their daughter, Lynn, passed away in 2011.
Living through the challenges and hardship of the Great Depression and World War II, she was a member of the Greatest Generation and her values and perspective were thus reflective. She had a strong work ethic, an appreciation for life’s simple pleasures, and a keen awareness of the supreme importance of faith, family, and friends.
Jennie was a professional beautician. For several years she worked at her father’s establishment, Carmine’s Beauty Salon, in Bernardsville, then years later, when her children were grown, she resumed working part-time at Chez Carlo’s in Basking Ridge, NJ until she retired at about age 82.
As a wife she maintained a neat and welcoming home, found ways to stretch available money and resources, and was a caring and loving spouse. As a mother, she was devoted to her children, nurtured them with unconditional love and support, and encouraged honesty, hard work, and kindness to others by always modeling those traits.
Jennie was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Morris Plains, NJ for 60 years. She was also a hospital volunteer at Morristown Memorial Hospital, was involved with the local PTA, served as a Brownie leader and Cub Scout den mother, was a regular among the Hanover Seniors, and worked as a dispatcher for Dial-A-Ride in the Township.
Jennie loved animals, particularly the cats and dogs she gave homes to over the years, and at one time she owned and bred beautiful Siamese cats. But her greatest joy from animals probably came from her cocker spaniels, which held a special place in her heart.
Jennie is survived by two sons, Randy, (wife Judy), residing in Long Valley, N.J., and Barry, (partner Diane LaGreca), residing in Tappan, N.Y. She is also survived by a sister, Gloria, who lives in San Francisco, CA., several nieces and nephews, two step-grand-daughters, and six step-great grandchildren.
The family anticipates holding a memorial service at a future date to be announced. In lieu of sending flowers, donations in Jennie’s name can be made to The Seeing Eye, Inc., P.O. Box 375, Morristown, NJ 07963-0375 or online at https://www.seeingeye.org/
