Obituary of Charles Davidson Hargrave

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Madison, NJ and Greenwich, CT - Charlie Hargrave - adored son and grandson, beloved brother, and good friend died unexpectedly on April 7, 2021, in Nashville, TN at the age of 32. Charlie will be remembered for his captivating smile and natural charm; his ability to enthrall a room with stories while engaging people of all ages and backgrounds; big bear hugs; and creating, at times mischievously, fun wherever he went. Charlie was known for his love of water sports; films of all genres, but especially Star Wars and Game of Thrones; Justice and Daft Punk; every cuisine under the sun, often doused with Sriracha; high performance cars; two holes in one at age 9 and 19; unique creative outlets; and his beloved Nashville Predators. Born March 10, 1989 in Princeton, NJ, Charlie was the only son of David C. Hargrave of Madison, NJ and Anne T. Getz of Greenwich, CT. He was also the cherished stepson of Anne K. Hargrave and Peter L. Getz. In addition to his parents, Charlie is survived by siblings, Mackenzie Hargrave, Caroline Hargrave, Axel Getz and Isabel Getz; his grandmother Jean Fitzpatrick; as well as countless treasured cousins, aunts and uncles - and, of course the family pets. He is predeceased by his loving grandparents, Richard D. Hargrave, Pamela V. Hargrave and Jack Fitzpatrick. Charlie was raised in New Jersey and Connecticut and was a proud graduate of Lehigh University, as were both of his parents. Charlie actively participated in Greek Life and made many friends as a member of Theta Chi fraternity. He graduated with a BS in Business and Economics, majoring in Logistics, Materials and Supply Chain Management. His career in this field included employment at Damco (Maersk subsidiary), Ascent Global Logistics and StockX. Charlie struggled with substance abuse for many years and the families would like to thank the talented rehabilitation and addiction professionals, sponsors and the sober community, who all strived to educate and guide him through his journey. Ultimately, the disease of addiction accidentally ended his life. There will be a visitation to offer condolences to the family on April 21st from 3-5:00 pm at Morris County Golf Club, 36 Punchbowl Road, Morristown NJ. A private family memorial will be held at a separate time. If you would like to express your condolences or send memories of Charlie to his family, please send an email to HargraveGetzFamily@gmail.com.
