Obituary of Dennis J. Steckert, Sr.

Dennis J. Steckert, Sr., 78, of Morris Plains, NJ passed away on May 14, 2021 at Morristown Medical Center with his children by his side. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Dennis resided in Flanders before moving to Morris Plains 35 years ago. Dennis graduated from Erasmus High School in 1961. He proudly served his country as a Private E-2 in the U.S. Army Reserves. He worked as a Operations Manager at NYNEX/New York Telephone for 37 years and as a Maintenance Engineer for Telcordia in Piscataway for 10 years. In his spare time, Dennis enjoyed being a Morris County Youth Soccer Referee, and Board Member of the Morris County Youth Soccer Association. He was also a past member of the Jaycees, and the School & College Officials Association (35 years). He was a parishioner of Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel Church, Cedar Knolls, NJ. Dennis is survived by his devoted children, Marianne (Bob), of Morris Plains, NJ, Dennis, Jr. (Suzanne), of Denville, NJ, and Billy (Shannon), of Morris Township, NJ. He is also survived by his beloved twin sister, Carol, of Mt. Arlington, NJ, his dear brother, Robert, of Delaware, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Kristen, Holly, Cole, and Jack; his adored nieces and nephews, Denise, Edward, Dennis, Theresa, and Janet; and his great-nieces and nephews, Jane, Dennis, Patricia, Ryanne, Gina, Will, Evan, Jesse, Kaitlyn, and Thomas. Dennis was predeceased by his loving wife, Lynn (2020); his brother, Edward; and his nephews, Robert and Thomas. Family and friends are welcome to gather on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 5-8pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains, NJ. A Funeral Service for Dennis will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 10:00am at the Funeral Home. (*While visiting with the family at the Funeral Home, CDC Guidelines should be followed – Social Distancing & Masks are required.) Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, East Hanover.
