Obituary of Marion B. Sweeney

Marion Sweeney (nee Kilgallin) of Morris Plains, NJ, died peacefully on June 4, 2021. Marion was born in Bayonne, NJ, and married, lived and raised her family in Irvington, NJ, before moving to Springfield, NJ, and then Morris Plains in 2014. A graduate of Bayonne High School, Marion worked for more than two decades at Irvington Motor Vehicle and over 10 years at Irvington Board of Education. Her life’s enjoyment came from spending time with family and friends, traveling, Italian food and musical entertainment — from Broadway to Frank Sinatra. She is most recognized by her gentle nature, warm personality and signature smile. Marion is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Laverty and her husband Mark, daughter Susan Sweeney, grandson Stephen Laverty, great granddaughter Ariana, and several nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by her parents, Martin and Bridget, her husband John, her brothers Martin and William, and sister Agnes. Relatives and friends are invited for visitation on Tuesday, June 15, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Dangler Funeral Home, Morris Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 16, at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation: https://alzfdn.org/.
