I never mastered the art of saying goodbye; although, life provides us with many opportunities to do so, and for many different reasons. What I prefer to dwell on and to maintain are life's moments. To those who knew him, my Uncle Pete was a kind, generous person. Much Like His Father - Paul Caruso. Pete demonstrated this throughout his life with family, friends, and others. A good example occurred back in the early 1970s. At that time, casinos opened in Atlantic City, N.J. Some family members took a day trip to A.C. to check out the slots. At lunchtime, we ate at McDonald's, since the casinos had very few dining options in the early days. As everyone sat down to eat, I noticed my Uncle Pete was not around. I asked my Aunt Nancy, and she indicated he wasn't that hungry so he went out on the boardwalk to wait. I quickly finished my lunch, then went out to join him. I asked why he didn't eat his lunch. He replied that he did not feel hungry. Then, before I could ask what he did with his food, I glanced across the boardwalk and saw a homeless man hungrily enjoying a hamburger (no cheese) and fries. That was my Uncle, looking out for the needs of others before himself. Much Like His Father! At dinner time, my grandfather Paul, would always make sure that his wife (Mary), daughters (Rocky & Dolores), and son (Pete) had their plates of food before he would make his dish. So you see, Much Like His Father, my Uncle Pete looked out for others first. A quality instilled in him by life's moments provided by his father. Rest in peace Uncle Pete. We will all miss you.
