Obituary of Paul D. Meany

Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Paul D. Meany entered eternal rest on 12 July 2021 after a brief illness. Paul was born in Brooklyn, New York on 11 November 1948 to John J. Meany and Monica LaCombe Meany. He was raised in St. Saviour’s parish and was a graduate of Bishop Ford High School and St. John’s University. Paul went to work for Liberty Mutual Insurance where he met the love of his life, Charlene Robin Bauer, who predeceased him. Paul and Charlene were married in 1976 and they were blessed with one son, Michael Charles, who survives at home. Paul worked for Kemper Insurance for many years and then consulted with Structure Tone and Accenture. In retirement, Paul enjoyed serving his community as a Welcome Center Clerk at the YMCA in Madison, where he will be remembered for his broad smile, generous spirit, quick wit, and singular sense of humor. Paul was an avid sports fan, particularly of the New York Mets and Jets. He was always eager to share his passion with the younger generations as his uncle, sports writer Tom Meany, had done with him. Paul enjoyed playing golf, was a master of sports trivia, and proudly directed traffic at MetLife Stadium for Super Bowl XLVIII. In addition to his son, Paul is survived by his siblings Louis Meany of Bernardsville, NJ, Elizabeth Baker of Wappingers Falls, NY, Ann Scott also of Wappingers Falls, John Meany of Basking Ridge, NJ and Thomas Meany of Brooklyn, NY. Also surviving are twenty loving nieces and nephews and dozens of grand-nieces and grand-nephews. As a member of Holy Family Church in Florham Park, NJ, Paul’s faith and family were sources of great strength. Paul and his family and friends enjoyed many St. Patrick’s Day parties at Holy Family. Calling hours will be on Friday from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Burroughs, Kohr, & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main St, Madison, NJ 07940. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at noon at Holy Family Church, 1 Lloyd Avenue, Florham Park, NJ 07932. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, 194 Route 10 West, East Hanover, NJ 07936.
