Charles “Chuck” John Ellis, 86, of Madison, NJ passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2021. Born in Chicago, IL, Chuck moved to Madison in 1952 and graduated from Madison High School in 1953. He has been a resident of Madison ever since.
Chuck attended Stevens Institute of Technology and Fairleigh Dickinson University. He was hired as a draftsman at Bells Labs in Whippany and worked his way up to become a mechanical and electrical engineer. He enjoyed the camaraderie and business trips with his colleagues, and was known as the office practical joker. Chuck retired from Bell Labs in 1992 after working there for 35 years.
Chuck’s favorite pastimes were gardening, fishing and playing cards with his granddaughter, Lila.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Louise; along with his three children, Chuck, Jr and his wife, Lisa; Andy and his wife, Laura; and Lara and her husband, Rob McNamara. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Rosine Ellis of Matteson, IL and his brother, Wilbur “Weeb” Ellis of Crown Point, IN.
Funeral services will be held privately for family and friends.
