Please share a memory of Rose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rose (nee Chambers) Underhill passed away on August 30, one day short of her 95th birthday, after a long battle with cancer. Rose Chambers was born in Morristown on August 31, 1926. She attended Morristown High School and went on to work at Bell Laboratories in Whippany. That is where she met her husband of 49 years, Clifford ("Kip") Underhill. They married on June 18, 1949. The couple lived first in Morristown and then in Dover. From there they moved to Florida, New Mexico, and Kwajalein for Kip's job. After coming back to New Jersey, they lived in Parsippany until Kip's death from ALS in 1998. A few years later, she moved to South Carolina to get away from the New Jersey winters, and to be closer to family that was living there. She spent many years as part of the Auxiliary of St. Clare's Hospital; and you could find her "manning" the receptionist's desk on most Mondays and Thursdays. She leaves behind her two children, Michael Underhill (Carolyn), of Summerville, SC, and Sharon Bettys (Roger), of Denville; four grandchildren, Kevin Bettys, of Belmar, Paul Bettys (Diana), of Parsippany, Jennifer Lombard (Christopher), of Summerville, SC, and Christie Underhill, of Colorado; as well as two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Anabel. Services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, (www.cancer.org), or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
