RICHARD PAUL SERGENT
JUNE 6, 1971 – OCTOBER 11, 2021
Richard Paul “Rich” Sergent of New Providence, NJ was born on June 6, 1971 and passed on October 11, 2021 after a brief illness and suffering from the effects of COVID.
Rich was born and raised in New Providence, residing there for the past 50 years and is a member of Faith Lutheran Church in New Providence.
Rich graduated New Providence High School in 1989 and earned his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Delaware in 1993. He worked at Suburban Propane in Whippany for the past 27 years and held the position of Excise Tax Manager.
Rich’s life was about the joy he brought to so many people – family, friends – all who knew him will miss his outgoing, beautiful spirit, always willing to help anyone who needed it. Rich enjoyed all sports – playing softball and golf as well as watching his favorite teams- Denver Broncos, NY Mets, and Tennessee Volunteers – all with the common thread of the color orange. Full of life and always there for you, that was our Rich.
Rich is survived by his loving and devoted family; loving life partner Janine Skorski; his cherished sister Michelle (Sergent) Kaas and her husband Scott, of Chalfont PA; his loving and devoted brother Michael Sergent and wife Debbie, of Scotch Plains NJ. He adored his niece and goddaughter, Riley Kaas; “Uncle Richie” always brought fun and love to his nephews Dylan Kaas, Jake Sergent (Godson) and Cole Kaas (Godson). He is also survived by his loving parents, Eileen A. and Michael Sergent of New Providence, who adored him and will sorely miss him, as will so many who grew to know and love him.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, October 17, 2021 from 2:00-7:00 at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main St., Madison, NJ. To keep guests healthy, masks are respectfully required and provided. A Church Service will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 11:00 am at Faith Lutheran Church, 524 South Street, New Providence, NJ. Interment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery, 1500 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union, NJ.
