Obituary of Dr. Zigmunt C Kaminski

Dr. Zigmunt C. Kaminski, 88, of Madison, New Jersey, passed away on March 16, 2017, at home. He was born in Hartford, Connecticut, son of Joseph Kaminski and Mary Jasiak Kaminski. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry Kaminski, and sister, Eleanor (Lottie) Kaminski Pozniak. He is survived by his sister, Florence K. Langridge of West Hartford, Connecticut, and brother, Ronald
Kaminski, and his wife, Janet, of Summerville, South Carolina, and numerous nieces and nephews in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and South Carolina.
He was a graduate of Hartford Public High School and received his Bachelor in Science degree from the University of Connecticut. He received his Master's Degree and Ph.D. from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia.
Dr. Kaminski was Assistant Professor of Microbiology at UMDNJ in Newark, New Jersey, as well as Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He was a member of the American Society for Microbiology and its New York City branch, as well as the Infectious Disease Society of New Jersey.
He was on the Advisory Committee for the New York Academy of Sciences and a Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology. He wrote numerous articles in his field in a variety of medical journals. He was a volunteer and a trustee of the Madison Historical Society.
He traveled throughout the world for research as well as enjoyment. Of Polish ancestry, he made numerous trips to Poland and other Slavic countries.
Dr. Kaminski was a devoted parishioner of St. Vincent Martyr Church in Madison, where he was a Eucharistic Minister. His spiritual caretakers were Monsignor George Hundt and Father Przemyslaw Gawlik of St. Vincent’s and Pastor Murdoch MacPherson and Pastor Jane McCready of Faith Lutheran Church in New Providence.
Home Helpers, Atlantic Health, Hospice, and his internist and former student, Dr. John Salaki, cared for
him throughout his long illness as well as his long-time friend and caregiver, Daniel Seidel of Madison.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 23, at St. Thomas More Church in Convent Station. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dr. Kaminski’s memory may be made to St. Vincent Martyr Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison, NJ 07940, or St. John’s Soup Kitchen, 22 Mulberry St., Newark,
NJ 07102.
