Obituary of Joan E. Cummings

Joan E. Cummings passed away peacefully on October 17, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Kearny, NJ, and lived in Millington, NJ, prior to moving to Madison, NJ. Joan graduated from St. Michael’s School of Nursing. She worked as a Head Nurse for the Lyons VA Hospital. She was a member of St. Thomas More Church, Convent Station. Joan was a very active member of the Thursday Morning Club where she participated in many of their fundraising events and activities. She was an active volunteer with the NJ Shakespeare Festival and was also involved with the Morris County Mental Health Players and the NJ Battered Women’s Shelter. Joan is survived by her devoted children, Sharon Dec, Bernie Cummings, Michael Cummings as well as nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James B. Cummings in 2015 and her daughter, Lisa Watt. A private interment was held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. The family kindly requests that donations may be made in Joan’s memory to the Thursday Morning Club, 25 Cook Ave., Madison, NJ 07940 (thursdaymorningclub.org/donate). Arrangements were under the care of Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, Madison.
