Obituary of John J. Wendlocher

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Joseph, (JJ) Wendlocher, 64, of Hampton Township, N.J., departed this life on October 17, 2021. John was born in Newark and raised in Cedar Knolls, Hanover Township. He graduated from Whippany Park High School in 1975. He studied Philosophy and Political Science at The Ohio State University and Pastoral Ministry at the College of Saint Elizabeth. John served in the U.S. Navy from 1981 to 1985. John lived on Kemah Lake in Hampton Township and spent many hours enjoying the tranquility of the lake and the company of his friends in the lake community. Like his role model from Nazareth, John earned his living as a carpenter. He volunteered at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Branchville, cheered on the NY Giants and the Ohio State Buckeyes, liked to read and listen to music and NPR. A combination of prolonged efforts, support of family and friends and mental health treatment worked for many years to allow John to maintain a full life. John’s family was paramount in his life. He was the big brother to four sisters, Kathleen Wallace, Eileen Wendlocher, Ann Wendlocher (James Stabenow) and Nora Fischer (Patrick Fischer, Sr.) and uncle of Justin and Seth Wallace, Rachel Maria and Catherine (Katie) Jones, Kyle and Keith Pronko and Patrick, Erin and Megan Fischer. He is predeceased by his parents Mary Buggy and John Leo Wendlocher. A Memorial Mass will take place at 9:30 am on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel Church, Cedar Knolls. A private interment will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Bloomfield, at a later date. Please consider a contribution in John’s name to the Interfaith Food Pantry, 2 Executive Drive, Morris Plains, NJ 07950 or the Market Street Mission, 9 Market Street, Morristown, NJ 07960. Arrangements were under the care of Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler, Madison.
