Matt and I shared many great adventures across 20 plus years. From ocean city, all the way to morrow Bay, and everything in between. The man loved the Virgin River in Utah. My heart goes out to his three great sons. I look forward to seeing him on the other side. Love you always brother. Rest easy buddy.

So sorry to hear of Matt's death. We, my husband Mick and I, had so many fun times with Matt and his wife Jennifer over the years as Mick and Matt worked together for wireless. Both will be missed by so many. My deepest sympathy for Jennifer and his family.

I went to HS with Matt and we both worked together starting back at NJ Bell. We were both techs back in the 70’s, we got put on a special project and we did so well, that really became a springboard for both of our careers. Matt was one of a kind, great person, great teammate, and just a great great human being. You will be truly missed my friend. My condolences to Matt’s family.

My condolences to Matt's family. I worked for Matt in WB in the 90s. He genuinely seemed to care about people and I knew that if I asked him a question he would give me an honest answer. I always had great respect for him.
Rest in Peace

What a wonderful guy. Had lunch with him my first day at Bell Atlantic Mobile in 1989. Over the 25 years we worked together, we had great discussions and even better arguments. Best of all, our conversations during the last seven years were enlightening and I learned a lot. So glad he got to one more Yankees game recently; he had lots of fun poking at my Red Sox fandom. Matt was truly part of the honest and dedicated Bell Atlantic/Verizon service ethic that made the company what it was. We will miss you.

Matt Melito was the best director/manager and leader in my entire career. He believed in me and supported me in so many ways. A man of honesty, intelligence and someone who took no crap. He was respected by his teams for being such a compassionate and intuitive leader. He would never ask anyone to do what he has never done. Literally, just last week i referenced him as the best person I ever worked for. I’m so glad I got a chance to ride in his beloved corvette with him. I will miss you dearly and deeply…. Always a place in my heart. Rest well, Sir.

Matt was one in a million. Colleague, friend, mentor. His sense of humor, laughter and stories will be missed by all those who knew him. Matt had a heart of gold and we were so lucky to have known him. He made such an impact on so many lives at Bell Atlantic/Verizon and was an inspiration to so many. Deepest sympathy to his family and Kathleen.

I was lucky enough to know Matt for his entire wireless (Bell Atlantic and Verizon) career. When I had questions (and I always had questions) he had the answer or knew somebody who knew the answer or knew the answer didn't exist. When I needed help (and I always needed help, he gave it enthusiastically. I saw him help create the first wireless Network Operations Control Center (NOCC) along with Edell, Pellegrino, Braun, Roper, Nightengale, Vanderclock and many others. When he went to Washington to become the Operations Director you knew you had a friend in WBV who would help you without hesitation, whether you were a fellow regional guy or a HQ guy. I was both. When Matt went to Washington I saw less of Matt (my loss) but he was always glad to see you (or pretended to be :)), always willing to share a laugh or a somber moment or volunteered a lesson learned with humility. Always inquired about your family. Never met a peer who didn't like him.
God Bless Matt!! Thoughts and prayers go out to Matt's family. He will be missed.

Back in 1996, I was one of those young engineers that Matt mentored. He was the first Director who had faith in me and promoted me as one of his Operations Managers. We were truly like a family. He had our backs no matter what. Back in the day, you knew you were somebody at VZW if you got invited to one of Matt's Christmas parties. We always had a great time at his house. He empowered us to do our jobs and said don't call me in the middle of the night, lol. Needless to say, our team meetings were like the Comedy Zone. Because of his easy demeanor and knowledge, we had mutual respect for each other. Matt had no problems getting us to do whatever he needed and to take his calls, anytime of the night. I modeled my management style after Matt because I wanted my team to answer my calls too, and they did, lol. I'm glad I got a chance to tell him before he left this earth, what an impact he had on my life.
Rest easy Matt, until we meet again! My condolences and prayers go out to the Melito family. He will be truly missed.
