Obituary of Irene M. Selitto
Please share a memory of Irene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Irene M. Selitto (nee Fejes) of Morris Plains, NJ passed away November 4, 2021 at The House of the Good Shepherd nursing home in Hackettstown, NJ.
Born in Newark, NJ she grew into adulthood residing in Irvington, Bradley Beach and Little Falls, NJ before settling in Morris Plains, where she resided for 62 years. With a natural interest and talent for medicine Irene proudly served in the Junior Corps during WWII. After the war she enrolled in the school of nursing at the Jersey City Medical Center, graduating in October 1948 with her R.N. She applied her nursing skills in several areas but, after raising her 6 children, found corporate health care the most rewarding. She worked for Mennen, Sandoz (currently Novartis) and Prudential before retiring in 1987.
During her years as a stay at home mom, Irene was active in her children’s lives as well as the Morris Plains community. She was a faithful parishioner, rosary/altar society member, Pre-Cana marriage mentor, Eucharistic Minister, Prime Time Seniors member, and most recently a Trustee of St. Virgil's Church. Irene was a founding member of the “All Seasons Garden Club” and continued as a Charter Member and past President. She and the garden club were responsible for the design and implementation of the many floral tubs throughout Morris Plains with their Christmas trees being the highlight of the year. For a time, she was involved with the Morristown Community Soup Kitchen, Troop leader for her sons and daughters’ scouting and received the “Family of the Year” award from the Knights of Columbus. To say that Irene volunteered around town is an understatement.
Irene is survived by her loving children Suzanne M. Clark and her husband John (Jack), Paul M. Selitto and his wife Joanne, Joanne M. Pascarella and her husband Patrick, John M. Selitto and his wife Laurie, Christopher M. Selitto, Mary Frances Williams and her husband Michael. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, caring in-laws Betty Ann Selitto, John Heroux and other extended family. Irene is predeceased by her dear husband of 55 years Joseph J. Selitto (2004) and siblings Ruth Gormley and Joseph Fejes.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 11am to 1pm at Dangler Funeral Home,600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. Masks are respectfully required during visitation. A Funeral Mass will be held following visitation on Thursday at 1:30pm at St. Virgil’s Church, 250 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, East Hanover.
