Obituary of Chip Del Coro

Please share a memory of Chip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ralph “Chip” Del Coro, Jr., 72, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 following a brief illness. Paula, his devoted wife of 35 years, was at his side and they were surrounded by loving family. Chip, a resident of Green Village, was born in Passaic, New Jersey to the late Ralph and Julia (née Bieger) Del Coro. He was a graduate of Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, NJ and he received a Bachelor’s degree in economics from Bucknell University. For a few years after graduation, he taught math and economics and coached soccer at Saddle River Country Day School, a full circle since he had been a student there himself previously. Chip then joined the family business, Modern Mass Media, Inc., as a salesman. After the passing of his parents, Chip became President of the company. He retired from the company in 2016, leaving him more time to enjoy his passion for sailing his boat VICI. Chip was an active member of the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club, serving in many capacities, including Commodore in 2001 and was instrumental in the creation of the Atlantic Highlands Sailing Education Program (AHSEP). Chip was also an exempt member of the Green Village Volunteer Fire Department, where he had been an active firefighter as well as Treasurer, Vice President, member of the Scholarship Committee and an enthusiastic fundraiser for Fire Department’s Annual Golf Outing. He then joined the New Vernon First Aid Squad as a first responder and ambulance driver. Chip also loved the home he shared with Paula. Parts of the home were built in the 1750’s and he enjoyed the challenge of fixing things as repair opportunities arose. He was proud of his yard and enjoyed the rose garden and grass cutting in summer, leaf pickup in the fall, snow blowing in the winter and preparing for new growth in the spring. An avid animal lover, Chip always had a place in his heart and home for many pets. His German Shepherd Stash and tabby cat Boo Boo will miss curling up with him. Travel became easier after retirement and Chip and Paula enjoyed many trips together with dear friends Denise Bridgens and Paul Collins. Trips included cross country skiing in New Hampshire, a photo safari in Wyoming, land and sea trips to Europe with stops to see dear friend Sebastian Heinz. Other travels included Winter Carnival in Quebec, cruise to New Zealand and Australia and a most recent trip to the Cote d’Azur with Diane and Jim Sanchez. Chip is survived by his wife Paula (nee Sosulski) who he met when he was a lifeguard at Crestwood Lake in New Jersey. He is also survived by his brother Carl and sister-in-law Terre, nephews Benjamin (Amy) and Daniel (Kristy), great nephews Anthony, Brendan and Alexander, great niece Isabella and sister-in-law Linda Zindle (Bob). He greatly loved cousin Jessie Bogdan, cousin Mark Miltner (Frauke) and the entrie Bieger family. Many friends have become extended family over the years including Herman Bips, Paul Collins, Denise Bridgens, Linda and Dave Brisco, Jeff and Emily Smith and Diane Hinds. He was blessed to have all in his life and in his passing. A Wake will be hosted on Sunday, December 12th from 1-5 pm at Burroughs Kohr Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ. The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 13th at 10 am at Church of Christ the King, 16 Blue Mill Road, New Vernon, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Atlantic Highlands Sailing Education Program (AHSEP) would be appreciated. AHSEP (a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization) P.O. Box 43, Atlantic Highlands, NJ 07716, or via ahsep01@gmail.com.
