Judith Z. Stewart, 88, of Randolph, NJ, passed away at Sunrise Assisted Living at Randolph on January 26, 2022.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Milton Zucker and Sylvia Wohlvert Zucker, Judith resided in Virginia from 1956 to 1958, New Jersey from 1958 to 1964, Illinois from 1964 to 1973, and Indiana from 1973 to 1977, before settling 45 years ago in Randolph, NJ. Judith attended and graduated from New Rochelle High School as Salutatorian in 1951 and went on to further her education at Cornell University, graduating in 1955 with a BS degree, Rutgers University at a Graduate Level from 1961 to 1964, transferring to University of Chicago, receiving a master’s degree in Economics, studying under Milton Friedman.
Judith worked as a Clerk for the Federal Reserve from 1955 to 1956 and then ran the Math Lab at St. Elizabeth’s University in Morristown, NJ from 1997 to 1999.
Judith was an accomplished knitter and seamstress; she even designed and crafted her own wedding dress. She studied the piano for 17 years and played the organ and the violin. As a music enthusiast, Judith enjoyed listening to blue grass, folk, and classical. She enjoyed live music concerts and ballet performances and was an avid crossword-puzzler.
Judith was a volunteer extraordinaire! She was a member of the Friends of the Randolph Library, a Life Member Girl Scouts of America, Life Member League of Women Voters, was voted 2007 Senior Citizen of the Year, was honored on September 19, 2019, by Joint Proclamation of the Township of Randolph and the Randolph Board of Education for 40 years of citizen participation.
Judith and her husband, James B. Stewart were world travelers. Judith “collected” United States State Capital Building visits - touring 48 out of the 50, lacking Mississippi & North Dakota. Her life bucket list included visiting UNESCO sites: [Stonehenge] British Isles, Scandinavia, [Great Wall] China, [Angkor Wat] Cambodia, Thailand, [Machu Pichu] Peru, [Chichen Izta] Mexico, Puerto Rico, [Mesa Verde] Colorado, Route 66, and the Alaska Cruise.
Judith passed away hours after her husband, James B. Stewart. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Katherine M.S. (Roger) West, and son-in-law, Gustavo O. "Tavo" De Leon, Jr., her cherished grandchildren, Alexander (Emily Childs) West, Andrew (Rachel) West, Sarah Rebecca West (ex: William “Wil” Rosenstengle, Jr.), and her adored great-grandchildren, Ronan West, and Mia Sylvia West. Judith was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Martha I. Stewart De-Leon.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Noon at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, NY, where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
