Douglas R. "Doug" Ellsworth/Claxton, 83, of Morris Plains, passed away at Livia Health & Senior Living in East Hanover after a long illness. Doug was born in Glen Ridge to the late Wilbur and Irene Ellsworth. Upon the unexpected passing of his parents, Doug became a part of the late Dottie and Norman Claxton and family. Doug resided in Bloomfield before moving to Morris Plains 40 years ago. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Doug earned his B.A. degree from Paterson State, and his M.A. degree from Montclair State. He worked as a Public School Teacher for two years prior to serving in the Navy and years following his Military Service. During his teaching career, in the Summer, Doug was also the Assistant Director of Camp Sankaty Head, a golf camp for boys in Nantucket, MA. During his many years of involvement with Camp Sankaty Head, Doug became Director and eventually Director Emeritus. He often referred to his caddies as "His Boys." Doug is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis (Freeman) Ellsworth; and Dottie and Norman Claxton; and their extended family. Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 4-7pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A Funeral Service for Doug will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 11:00am at the Funeral Home. (*Guests are respectfully requested to wear masks while indoors.)
